EMDR Intensives: A Faster, Focused Path to Healing

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy—or you’ve already done some work but feel stuck—you might be wondering if there’s a more efficient way to make meaningful progress. EMDR intensives offer a powerful alternative to traditional weekly sessions by creating dedicated space for deeper, more focused healing.

What is an EMDR Intensive?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process and heal from distressing experiences, including trauma, anxiety, and OCD. An EMDR intensive takes this approach and condenses it into longer, structured sessions over a shorter period of time. Instead of meeting for 50 minutes each week, you engage in extended sessions—allowing you to stay in the process and build momentum.

Why Choose an EMDR Intensive?

Many clients are drawn to intensives because they’re ready to move forward more quickly and intentionally. Weekly therapy can be incredibly helpful, but it can also feel slow or interrupted by the demands of everyday life.

With an intensive, you have the opportunity to:

  • Stay focused without having to “start over” each week

  • Process experiences more fully in one sitting

  • Build momentum and see shifts sooner

  • Step away from daily stressors and prioritize your healing

This format allows your brain to do what it’s naturally designed to do—process and integrate experiences—without frequent pauses.

What Can EMDR Intensives Help With?

EMDR intensives can be especially helpful if you’re experiencing:

  • Anxiety or panic

  • Intrusive thoughts or OCD

  • Past experiences that still feel emotionally charged

  • Feeling “stuck” despite previous therapy

  • Overwhelm, overthinking, or emotional reactivity

Rather than just managing symptoms, EMDR focuses on resolving the underlying experiences that may be driving them.

What Kind of Results Can You Expect?

While everyone’s experience is different, many clients report:

  • A noticeable decrease in emotional intensity around past experiences

  • Increased sense of calm and clarity

  • Greater confidence in handling triggers

  • Feeling more present and like themselves again

The goal isn’t to erase your past—it’s to help your mind and body relate to it differently.

What to Expect During an Intensive

EMDR intensives are structured yet personalized. We begin with an intake session to understand your history, goals, and readiness, and to create a plan tailored specifically to you.

Intensives are offered in 3-hour blocks, with options for up to 6 hours per day over 1–3 days. Each 3-hour session is $675 and includes a 30-minute follow-up session scheduled at a later date to support integration and continued progress. The initial intake session is $200.

Throughout the process, we prioritize pacing, grounding, and ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

Understanding Cost and Insurance

EMDR intensives are typically not covered by insurance. The intake session may be eligible for out-of-network reimbursement depending on your benefits, and you may be able to use HSA funds—please check with your insurance provider or plan administrator to confirm your coverage.

While the upfront cost can feel significant, many clients find intensives to be more cost-effective over time. Because the work is more focused and efficient, you may need fewer overall sessions compared to traditional weekly therapy.

Is an EMDR Intensive Right for You?

An intensive may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel ready to actively work through a specific issue

  • Want to make meaningful progress in a shorter period of time

  • Have tried therapy before and feel stuck

  • Prefer a focused, immersive approach

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting—part of the process is helping you identify where to begin.

Taking the Next Step

Choosing to invest in your healing is a meaningful decision. EMDR intensives offer a unique opportunity to step out of the day-to-day and into a space that is fully dedicated to your growth.

If you’re curious about whether this approach is right for you, the first step is scheduling an intake session to explore your goals and create a plan tailored to your needs.
